Store Snippets in a "Swipe File"

Most successful copywriters have a drawer full of their favorite ads and sales letters. This "swipe file" is a little pot of gold when you are looking for inspiration on your next project.

Instead of riffling through all that paper or rummaging through a bunch of Web sites, consider using IdeaWeaver for your swipe file. Because it is a database, you can actually organize your swipe file using topics and categories.

Save Aside a Few Great Headlines

For example, suppose you find a really mouthwatering headline in a sale letter online. Copy and paste the good part into an IdeaWeaver idea. Now you might assign it to a topic you created called Great Headlines.

The next time you are floundering around for a decent headline, you can filter your ideas by topic. Check out the ones you've sorted into the Great Headlines topic and voila, you are no longer at a loss for words!

Use Your Swipe File for Inspiration

Of course, we aren't suggesting that you rip off other peoples' work. A great swipe file is used for inspiration, not plagiarism.

IdeaWeaver is flexible enough that you can actually store your swipe file and your copy project in one place if you want. Only ideas that are in the outline are exported. So you can create "swipe file" ideas that you don't place in the outline right alongside your original sales copy, which you DO put in the outline.

Export your outline with the original sales copy and you have your sale letter!
